Stills from AHO installation, Donna Campbell
Artists

Donna Campbell’s work reflects her negotiation with what she calls ‘the bi-cultural interface’. She aims to implement the technology of the ancient art form of raranga to create new and innovative works that carries the mana of weaving and speaks with the voice of the urban modern Maori. As a practitioner and teacher of Raranga for many years, Campbell is constantly inspired by the complexity of pattern, and the commitment it takes to the craft. “I am in awe of our tupuna and gratefully acknowledge the many teachers and mentors that have passed this gift on to me”.
Campbell is now a lecturer in the School of Maori and Pacific Development at Waikato University, Hamilton, where she is developing a raranga (plaitwork basketry) programme, and lecturing on Maori Art.
