2001 Guadeloupe amérindienne. Guides archéologiques de la France, no 38, Paris, Monum, Editions du Patrimoine, 120 p. ISBN 2-85822-367-X
[Publication note: Although almost decimated by European colonization, the Amerindian civilizations from the Lesser Antilles form the basis of contemporary island cultures. Written for the general public, this guidebook explores the history of the Guadeloupean archipelago, prior to Christopher Columbus' discovery of the "New World" in 1492. The prehistory of the first West Indians, who for thousands of years have lived in and shaped the Caribbean Basin, is presented through recent archaeological discoveries, a series of suggested tourist routes, 3D reconstructions and ethnological comparisons. The Archaeological Guides to France is a collection produced under the auspices of the Department of Archaeology, Architecture and Cultural Heritage Division of the Ministry of Culture. 120 pages. 190 color photographs, 26 drawings and schemas. 15 Euros (Diff. From the publisher’s notice: "Excavations at the Tutu site represent a dramatic chapter in the annals of Caribbean archaeology. The site was discovered in 1990 during initial site clearing for a shopping mall in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands...Under severe time constraints, the site was excavated under the direction of Elizabeth Righter with the assistance of a team of professional archaeologists and volunteers...The project employed a multi-disciplinary sampling strategy designed to recover material for analysis by experts in fields such as physical anthropology, archaeology, paleobotany, zooarchaeology, bioarchaeology, paleopathology and photo imaging.
The volume reports the results of applied analytical techniques that stand at the cutting edge of technological methods for palaeoenvironmental reconstruction; interpretation of human remains and understanding of human social, cultural and economic adaptive strategies during 1200 years of site occupation. These innovative and comprehensive investigations lay a solid foundation for future comparative studies of prehistoric Caribbean human populations and cultures."

The document is now completed and on disk. It is intended to make a first run of 25 CD-Roms for early institutional distribution, then more as they are requested by individuals.

Vous pouvez obtenir ce répertoire sur Compact Disk, pour la somme de $20, auprès de Dr. Jay B. Haviser, SIMARC, Sint Maarten Archaeological Center, A.T. Illidge Road #117, Madame Estate, St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles.
